Room Number:
3021

Room Block:
3

Arrival:
From day one, we had nothing but problems. Even at check-in, we were told that they did not have our reservation. After a few minutes of searching, they found the reservation, although they had spelled the name wrong. From there, we were given blue wrist bands which we were told we had to keep on for the entire stay, but were never told why. A very brief overview of the layout was explained, but it seemed that they didn't care we were there and weren't even welcomed. We were checked in by Johan who was very rude. He even laughed at us when we asked him questions. No one on the staff wanted to help us. We were either made fun of or ignored completely.

Rooms:
Once we got to the room in Building 3, we were even more disappointed. It was wet and smelled of mold and mildew. However, we figured that since it was so humid we should expect it. Beware...the mildew, musty smell never goes away and your room is never fully dry. There are spiders all over the room.On the 4th day, we noticed a piece of paper slipped under our door informing us that the next day our room would be fumigated!! This was when we snapped. We went to guest services politely explaining all of our problems and were directed to the night manager, Ricardo, who could have cared less that our stay was less then perfect. He did call the cleaning staff to tell them to bring us new bedding, towels, etc. We were also told that their washing machine was broken as well. Which means, NO ONE at the resort was getting clean linens, and they had no time frame on when they would have a new one. After returning to the room, our "new" linens were still stained. Upon telling him about the bugs and spiders all over the room, his response was "This is a tropical climate, you should expect to have bugs in your room."

Restaurants and Bars:
The beer is watered down, their version of orange juice is really something that tastes like watered down Tang, the meat in the Italian restaurant tastes like taco meat (which also gave my fiance' diarrhea later that evening).

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
you are constantly harrassed by people wanting to sell you a timeshare to their sister club, Cayena Beach. Relaxing afternoons at the beach are not possible for this very reason. It seems every 10 minutes someone wants to sell you either the timeshare or an excursion. (Avoid Pedro; he doesn't give up.) I finally had to resort to being rude and telling them to leave us alone for them to finally get the hint. The beach itself is gorgeous, though.

Other Comments:
The last day of our trip, we were called to set up a time for them to pick up our luggage to take to the lobby. No one showed up at our scheduled time. We waited for 10 minutes, then finally decided to take the luggage ourselves. No one at check-out asked us if we enjoyed our stay. In fact, it seemed like they wanted us out of there ASAP.
The ONLY saving grace for the resort is the fact that the beach is beautiful and one gentleman named Eddie in the "El Bucanero" restaurant that is friendly, kind, and helpful, and who truely wanted to make sure your needs were met.

This hotel has HUGE plumbing issues

First thing I want to say is "DON'T DO IT!!!" If you haven't booked yet, don't, if you have, see if your agent can get you switched!

We arrived on time via Miami Air with a direct flight from Boston. The transfers were efficient and there was help available to anyone who was unsure of the next steps at the airport. Our rooms (we were two couples) were not available when we first arrived (understandably as it was only noon.) We were directed to the buffet for lunch and told to come back in an hour or so. It was closer to two hours before the room was available, however, this was still acceptable. Check-in time is posted to be 3:00PM. Make sure you ask for the remote and safe mechanism ($2 per day).

Rooms::
There are renovated and non-renovated rooms. The non-renovated rooms are in definite need of a facelift as this is where both couples were placed. The bathroom had mold in the corners of the tub, a faulty on/off switch (you had to play with it so that the connection would be made to turn the lights/fan on) and a fan that was so loud that it would scare a small child. The pillows seemed to be made of little pieces of foam not a solid piece. I found it to be very strange. Our bed was fine but our friend's bed was very uncomfortable. While we did not experience rust on the mirrors, we did hear this complaint from several guests. We did have several openings in the ceiling in the bathroom and mold around most of them. The furniture is on its last leg and is in need of replacement. No shampoo or lotions were furnished by the resort so be sure to bring your own. A hand gel soap was furnished although the dispenser in our room was broken. A bar of soap in the lobby store is $4.
The key to our room did not unlock the door when issued. We had to go back to the lobby and wait a long time for someone to make a new copy. When you are arriving, this was not a good first impression. You just want to get unpacked and hit the beach.

The worst: This hotel has HUGE plumbing issues. The public toilets (at the beach, lobby and restaurants) were frequently overflowing or non-flushing. It was disgusting. The toilets in both of our rooms had issues as well. Our friend's leaked the whole time and ours was on the verge of overflowing each time we flushed. We reported the issues but received no resolution. They sent a maintenance man but he did little to solve the issues. Our TNT rep (our tour operator)told us that it happens frequently and the hotel does little to solve this and other electronic issues.

The resort should not be receiving a four star rating from TNT.

Restaurants and Bars::
The food was a strong point of the resort. The buffet food was excellent. The food was varied and some of the best that I've eaten in the seven times I've been to Punta Cana. The problem was that the buffet was understaffed. At times, there were no seats available as the hotel had closed one of the three seating areas. We also found that the staff frequently "missed" essential items when setting the tables such as utensils and napkins. We finally resorted to taking the missing items from other tables. The hotel advertises that there are two ala carte restaurants each night. However, during our stay, the ala cartes rotated. One night, one was available and the next, the other.

Beach/Pools/Grounds::
This is a very mature resort (read old) so the vegetation is very developed. It is well cared for. The pool bottom needs to be painted but I really can't comment too much on it as we were "beach people" and never used it.

The beach was awesome! Plenty of palapas although you had to reserve one early in the morning. This is against the rules but everyone does it and if you don't, you will be out in the sun with little hope of shade.

This is a very intimate resort which I liked. There is only 5 buildings with rooms and then the restaurants/lobby/theatre. It only takes a few minutes to walk anywhere. I have been to larger resorts in Punta Cana where you must ride a tram which can be time consuming.

Other Comments::
In summary, while this resort has some good points, I just couldn't get past the plumbing issues and the fact that the management knows all about it and does nothing to resolve. If not for the plumbing, I could have looked past all the other issues. All and all...I wouldn't recommend this resort. There are many other resorts available, try one of them instead. I think you will be glad you did.

Just returned from a week at the VIK Arena Blanca. It is definitely not a 4 star resort as they bill themselves! The rooms were uncomfortable. The food was so-so. The food in the specialty restaurants was cold when it was served, and the buffet had little variety.

The pool was nice and the beach was lovely. There was, however, no drink service at the pool or beach. That would have been a big plus.

After talking to fellow guests who had stayed in several different resorts over the years, I am convinced I could have found a better resort for the same price. My advice-keep looking for a different resort. The Dominican beaches are well worth visiting.

Arrival: January 25 2009
We arrived to this facility after a flight cancellation. We were sequestered in an area of the airport for 8 hours without food or water until they found this place for us to stay in. (Turns out US Air has a contract with this hotel.)

Rooms:
The room was horrid. The floor was so dirty that we had to keep our shoes on the entire time there. The pillows are nothing more than lumps of foam stuffed in a pillow case. The mattress was like a slab of stone from a medieval monastery. The bathroom had dirt and sand all over it and within the sand were many sand lice and other beach bugs. The air conditioner was non functioning, the television did not work, the towel rack was coming off the wall, the towels themselves were rough, gray and dingey. The lock on the door looked as though it had been broken into a few times.

Restaurants and Bars:
In spite of the fact that our flight was cancelled and our luggage was lost, we were told we could use the restaurants. We went to the Italian restaurant and were refused service because my travel companion had shorts on. When the manager was told about the luggage situation he simply stated that it wasn't his problem. To smooth things over, I offered to order something to take back to the room as there is NO room service. The manager again, refused. Essentially we were stranded travellers forced into this dump of a place and then forced to go without food for the entire day. My friend has a bad leg so I ran to the buffet as they were in the process of closing down and with the help of one of the staff was able to at least pull together a salad for us to share.
Coffee is had via a vending machine in the lobby. For instant coffee it wasn't too bad but don't expect brewed coffee here at any time.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Beach area is beautiful and the grounds are well manicured. However, the "packaging" of the place does not preclude the lack of service from the management.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
The one show that we saw made me long for a high school production anywhere in the world than to have to watch this sorry excuse for entertainment.

Other Comments::
The bathroom does NOT have any amenities, so if you don't bring your own you will end up spending a small fortune on toiletries. You will NOT, however, be able to buy soap in the gift shop as they don't carry it!
If you do go to this resort, be sure to pack bug spray for the room and the body for when you go out. Bring Lysol for the sheets because ours had body funk and perfume reeeking from them so I doubt they bothered to change the sheets after the last guest left. The pillows are nothing more than broken bits of foam stuffed into a pillow case, be wise and bring your own. The mattress is as hard as a slab of stone from a medieval monastery, bring something soft to lay on or your back will hate you.
I would also suggest that you bring ear putty for when you go into the shower. There is a sign on the bathroom mirror indicating that you cannot drink the water so plug up your ears to avoid having any parasites finding a home in them. Overall, this shoddy resort is nothing more than a gimmick to get you to buy time shares. The fact that US Air has a contract with them for stranded travellers simply boggles the mind.
The 4 star rating is according to Dominican Republic standards and NOT by global standards. In the rest of the world, this resort would be lucky to get either a one or 2 star rating. The staff really try hard but the management over all seem quite clueless. If you can avoid going to this resort, do so and find yourself something more worthy of your time and hard earned money.

Bad food, bad service, the rooms (renovated or not) are not particularly nice.

Arrival: January 3 to 10
Arrived late at night (1am). Loooong check in process!

Rooms:
We had a 'renovated' room. Unfortunately in Dominican standards renovated is the same as 'unfinished'. No door frame on our bathroom door, which meant that the door could not be closed. Floor tiles hadn't been grouted yet. Mini fridge did not work because there was only ONE working outlet in the whole room.
But in comparison to some other 'renovated' rooms, ours was one of the good ones, so we decided to keep it.

Restaurants and Bars:
The food is mediocre at best. Definitely not that of a 4-star resort. The service is pretty well non-existent. Every time I went to one of the bars I felt as if I was bothering the bartender. The service in the buffet restaurant is downright atrocious! They do not re-set the tables once someone leaves, so you'll have to look for cutlery, glasses, etch. Very frustrating!

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
This is where the resort makes up for the bad rooms, food and service; the grounds are immaculate, the pool is beautiful and the beach is stunning! Lots of chairs by the pool and beach.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
We did not go on any tours, but from what we heard there really isn't much to do.
The activities at the hotel are minimal and repetitive.

Other Comments:
Punta Cana has amazing beaches; I will definitely go back. But there is no way that I will ever stay at this resort again.
Bad food, bad service, the rooms (renovated or not) are not particularly nice.
This should NOT be listed as a 4-star resort.

This resort DOES NOT deserve 4 or 3 STARS.

Arrival: June 27, 2009
On June 27 2009 my husband, myself, a couple with a child and three young girls got stranded in Punta Cana due to an overbook fly. The airline sent us to this MOTEL 6 looks like resort.
Upon our arrival, checking in was madness. The three receptionist run around as if they did not know what to do and arguing among themselves of misplacing pens. They did not HAVE ENOUGH PENS for us to fill out the check-in forms. I open my purse to get my own pen.

Rooms:
The couple and I got our room first. The girls had to wait because the rooms were not clean. Our room was mouldy, two twin size together, the AC was loud, the pillows were the cheapest one. I was MAD! Later that evening after dinner we run into the girls and they told us that they were given dirty rooms. It was 9PM by then and they were still waiting for a clean room.

Restaurants and Bars:
We were hungry and went to the Buffet. The food was nothing out of this world and I got beaten by mosquitos there. The next day during breakfast, flies were on our table. If smoking bother you, this is not a place for you.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
I walked on the beach the next morning and saw lots of seeweed. I did not see this at the Melia Caribe were we stayed for 4 days.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
No, all i wanted was to leave this resort.

Other Comments: I have very good memories of Punta Cana and probably go back, but I do not recommend this resort. This resort DOES NOT deserve 4 or 3 STARS.

Arrival: March 25 - April 1 We arrived and checked in promptly. The staff was friendly. Very accomodating, initially...Untill we had a problem with our room.

Rooms
We booked with Transat and were guaranteed renovated rooms. When we got to our rooms the first thing we did was walk right back out and go to the front desk. The "renovated rooms" looked absolutely nothing like the pictures. (We have stayed other places and you feel like you are walking into the pamphlet). We had two beds and when we asked about getting a king and a renovated room they laughed at us and told us none was available. When we told them it didn't look anything like the picture the manager looked at us and said "have you ever heard of photoshop?" We argued with them for ever and they did absoltely nothing to help us. As we were talking to them 3 other couples came to complain about their rooms also. Our room was clean, few things broken, beds not too comfortable and the pillows were awefull. There were lots of mosquitos.

Restaurants and Bars
We found the food to be okay. Nothing to complain about. You don't need a reservation at the a la cartes and you can go as many times as you want. This was really nice. The people working them were nice but none to quick to serve you

Beach/Pools/Grounds
The beach was gorgeous. Ocean and sand was awesome. The pool was nice and had lots of chairs. The grounds were always clean and well kept.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel
We didn't do any activities at the resort. The tours we did were, Marinarium which was a short snorkle with few fish and then swimming in a roped off area with sharks and stingrays. Which was really cool. We also did the Zipline Adventure which was awesome. So much fun with well trained staff. One night at the hotel they had acrobats come in the evening which was amazing. The only show that we watched.

Other Comments
The Cayena beach club recruiters were brutal and very aggressive. They would hang aroung the entrance to the buffet like sharks. We would not recommend this resort stricktly because of frustration with transat and the faulcity of their pamphlet. We had not been on a vacation since our sons were born. And to have to squeeze into a double bed for 7 nights was not what we expected. The Transat rep was also frustrating because she didn't really care about our satisfaction. And we had to fight with her to help us get a better room. Which still didn't work in the end. Even though we had a rough start, we made the best of it and still had a great relaxing holiday. We just wish we would have found this website before we booked!

Arrival: Jan 8-22/09 Luggage was lost by Air Transat but luckily was found within 24 hrs. Hotel staff is friendly.

Rooms: Rooms are well below the advertised "4 Star". Having been to approx. 15 resorts in the Carib/Mexico/Med this resort was a huge disappointment. No art/mirrors on the walls just white paint. No pull knobs on the dressers. Beds were very comfortable.
Changed rooms 2 times. Construction next door, and ants in the bedding and the AC would not work. Reported the AC and ants twice (1130 & 1 pm) front desk ignored the problem. I spoke to the front desk at 5:30 and demanded a new room about 1 hour later received a new room. Initially they wanted me to wait 1 hour to fix the room I was in. I refused as the had 6 hours to correct these problems and chose not to.

Restaurants and Bars:
Food was OK. Buffet was far better than the dining room sit down meals. Although huge waits for tables. No complaints about the bars...they were great!

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Beach was spectacular! Pool was clean and water was warm. Palm trees and landscaping are the only way this resort is classed as a 4 star.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
You are about 20 minutes from Punta Cana. $20 USD cab ride. No "Free shuttle" as advertised. I asked for snorkling gear and had to argue with the attendant to get the gear. Attendant was more interested in selling a diving tour than passing out the amenities as advertised.

Other Comments:
We stayed 2 weeks and made the best of it. 1 week would have been plenty at this resort. Large Euro and Quebec population, both equal 70% of the hotels guests.

Arrival
We arrived late at 11:30pm and received no welcome, not much staff around.

Rooms
Full of mosquitos. yuk! my son was up all night screaming.

Restaurants and Bars
Restaurants al le carte were a little boring, bars were okay but can get very busy only 2 bars near the ocean and pool for over 1200 people

Beach/Pools/Grounds
Beach is gorgeous, pool was large and the grounds were okay and kept clean.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel
Acitivies around the resort were limited, not alot of staff to get people involved. We did no tours on this trip.

Other Comments
If you are looking for a nice beach this is the spot in Punta Cana, but the resort itself I would not recommend to anyone. I would definately pay a little more to stay at the Iberostar or Riu. The mosqiutos were horrible, but further down the beach the other resorts had none. I can only assume that it was caused by a sewage problem, one day the toilets were not flushing and there was no water to take a shower. they are trying to improve the apperance of the rooms as far as upgraded them, but that only included paint, new tiles on the floors and new linen oh yeah and a flat screen tv on the wall. Overall, we put the lack of staff and the rooms aside and had plenty to eat (the buffets were very good) and had a blast. Weather was great!
