We spent five days at the Majestic Elegance and I can say it was the worse trip that I have ever taken. The service was terrible, the food was terrible and most of all the accomodations were terrible. As soon as we arrived to our room it had a smell of mildew, when we then notice on the vent that there was mold. Housekeeping was sent into the room and they sprayed some type of soloution to wipe it down, but it did not rid the smell that we had to endure for the duration of time we were there. We requested the room to be changed which fell upon death ears of the staff. We were already in a swim up suite which is supposed to be a top catagory suite, however it was not. All I can say I need a trip from this nightmare and I will never go back or refer anyone to this resort. Totally upset...............

Rooms:
I rented 3 rooms total for me and my family and my best friend also had 4 rooms.

Restaurants and Bars:
The food was not up to par in any of the resturants really, but the Japanese Resturant was ok.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Not that great.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
not much too do and no real interaction from the staff. The staff only really catered to the Caucasins which is said, because we all paid around the same amount of money to be there. But people of there skin color they seemed to ignore.

Other Comments:
Will not go to this Resort again. They need to make major changes and learn how to treat their guest. if their is a problem with the room then they should take care of it and not put a bandage on the problem. Mold and mildew is a major health condition for some and my rest was uncomfortable the entire time.

While we were guests at the Majestic Elegance, my iPod was stolen from my room. We immediately contacted hotel security and they did a search of our room and an “investigation.”

I was told by hotel management that the investigation turned up nothing. I was also informed that they did not question the housekeeping staff because they did not use a key card to get into our room. We were in the room when they arrive and we had let them in. We sat on our terrace while they worked in the room. I was not happy with the way the hotel handled the situation and went to the local police department and filed an official complaint. The hotel assistant manager, Ismael, was going to email me a copy of the police report. I have emailed him and requested this information 5 times to no avail. I found the hotel management to be unhelpful and a little rude regarding this situation. I have also emailed the corporate office of the Majestic chain and again have not had a response.

My major concern is that these people are thieves. They are still working at this resort and will, in all likelihood, steal from other guests. While there is a safe in the room, the iPod was not in it – it was left in a case on the dresser. They unzipped the case, pulled out the earphones and re-zipped the case. When you take something that does not belong to you – you are a thief. Please lock up all your belongings! I have placed this negative review in the hope that other travels will be warned.

While the iPod is not of great monetary value, it is a vital part of my business. I teach ZUMBA and use it for my classes. I had to replace the iPod, cancel my iTunes account and the credit card that the iTunes account was linked to.

The funny thing is that the music on the iPod is all Spanish and Latin music – not American music. So basically they got music they can hear on their local radio stations.

Food was horrible, service was less than desirable. No one appreciated nice tips that were given to them, like $10.00... money did not change attitudes, most all the staff was rude and not helpful. They serve cheap liquor, many things you would take for granted in many other countries are not included here. Maids dont change sheets, we had to wait 2 days for towels. We went to customer relations at the resort, they were no help. Safe didnt work when we got there, everyone elses didnt either from who we talked to, everyone at the resort has access to go into your room when they want... I believe all of this is by design... Terrible Terrible Place. At first i thought I might being a typical American, but we talked to other people, all seem to be first time visiting and they had the same mind set. The country is a very poor place and with their arrogance and disregard for help and other people, this country will always be 100 years behind the rest of the world.

If this is your first resort..you will be happy...

Arrival:
Arrived 7/8/10..room was not ready until after 3p.m.
We had 8 people...one of the room was in a different bldg....we were not together as requested

Rooms:
Housekeeping: The rooms were clean once a day...gave us only 2 bath towels and no wash clothes. We did not have a comforter for the entire stayed. The mini-bars was not stocked everyday. The carpet had gum when we first arrive..we purposedly wait to see if they would clean it..it only goes to show they did the bare minimum of cleaning..The mirror at the bathroom sink was dirty...and the room did not a full length mirror. It's like getting dress in the dark...The bathrobe was dirty and ripped...Complaint was made to the housekeeping, but language was a barrier...Finally complain to the Guest Relation Manager...but no change. I saw the manager 2 days later..and he asked"was the problem taken care of ?" I told him NO and I gave up..he just smile and didn't do anythingelse to rectify the problem.

Restaurants and Bars:
Restaurants: Foods were good..not great..The Seafood rest...we had to send the Lobsters back and still was not cook..
The steak house couldn't seat all 8 people at a table..the hostess sat 6 at 1 table and the other 2 at another table..until we complain to the manager..they finally took care of the seating arrangement

Bars: Lack of staff in restaurants and bars. Only certain bars had top shelf liquor.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Beach was nice. The resort was pretty and well kepted.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Non-motorized was included...but if you take the Hobie(sailboat) they will charge you $6.00 for insurance...You would think their equipment is already insured.

Other Comments:
The only reason we chose Elegance is because we stayed at the Colonial 2 years ago. We did not encounter any of these problems.

The entire staff needs to take customer service 101 training.

Would grow up and act like the resort they profess to be.
No face cloths at all, skipped house keeping 3 of 7 days, skipped fridge service, beach towels were available first come first served and they ran out early every day. Staff were outside your doors before 7 am every day cleaning, so sleeping in and relaxing is not an option.service and necessities are lacking here, otherwise, for the eye, it is a nice resort.I would return to the D.R. again for the beach only, the resorts are mammoth and there is no personal touch whatsoever, the staff do their best yet I believe they are overwhelmed and understaffed at the best of times.

Arrival:
As has become the norm with Air Transat, after we booked our vacation and of course paid for it, they called to tell us that our flight, because of labor unrest would be leaving Toronto at 4pm, instead of 8 am, thus completely cutting an entire day off our already abbreviated vacation. We arrived at the airport at 8:10 pm and were hustled across a parking lot to sit in a hot musty bus while we waited for all the other guests to make their way to the buses, this took app. 1/2 hour or so. Air Transat, rather than posting in plain view, the bus numbers and resorts, made everyone wait in a line up, one at a time, to make this enquiry. Huge waste of time and lack of planning.After everyone was finally on board, the milk run through the resorts began and eventually, one would end up at their destination.The drivers , if you can call them that, are completely devoid of any safe driving habits and speeding and unsafe passing and lane changes are the norm here, I personally would have preferred a cab.
Checkin was pretty quick, one fella led us about, gave us his cell and said he was available 24-7, this was the only time I saw this person and the two times I requested him, he was not available. Laughable and a disappointment.

Rooms:
The room was a pleasant surprise, amazing in all aspects, jacuzzi, stone and tile throughout, well appointed and beautifully decorated, a-one top notch here.
The only downfall was the ever present musty smell and the ac, preset to what I deemed 78-82, and the wall gauge read 20.5 c. I live and work in Alberta and we maintain 20c year round, it was much warmer in the rooms. We had friends from Vegas , they brought temperature gauge which showed room temp at 77F while room gauge maintained 20.5C.

Restaurants and Bars:
The buffets, first come best served, the food was good when early, dried up and not kept full. There is no protection from insects so one would always have to face the unsightly fly assault on all the food. At home , for barberques, we have screened domes to prevent the bugs. I am sure they are available in the Dominican.
The Italian restaurant, was more seafood than anything else, if you want Italian, pass on this one. Food we had was good though, but very small portions.
Highlight was staff, all good here.
The steak house, by far the best I've saw, bar none south of the US border, great cuts of meat, done the way you request and appetizers and desserts did not disappoint. We ate there every evening.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The draw for us in the D.R. and what brought us back the second time is the beach, nicest I have ever saw and if nothing else brought us back, this would be the draw. Stunning , well groomed and kept.
The grounds are like all resorts, beautiful, lush and well maintained, the pools are well set up and inviting. There was a dead rat in one of the fountains early one morning, but I guess you can't get away from that, the following day, coincidentally, there were three of natures great mouse hunters patrolling the grounds. Everything in this aspect was above and beyond, two thumbs up!

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Plenty to do and see, same o same o though and repetitive. We did a speedboat and catamaran tour, first beach , everyone was chewed by sand fleas, bring bug spray until they figure out spraying would make it more enjoyable. I find the excursions and attractions do not vary from resort to resort and once you have done it once, better to enjoy the resort.

Other Comments:
We were on the resort for 8 days, three days our room did not get made up, two days we had to call and request a fridge refill. We did not over the entire vacation have a facecloth in our room, we requested then day after day after day and were finally told, they did not have face cloths, annoyed now, I made 8 out of two hand towels.On three occasions, there were also no beach towels available , so the day before laundry had to suffice and in the D.R. nothing dries out, period! Careful with room selection as well, as nice as our room was, the patio was set on the staff walkway around the resort backed by jungle and 12 foot chain link fence. The atmosphere was continually interrupted by speeding garbage trucks, laundry and supply vehicles and an exodus of staff to and from the beach area. Better to leave the blinds closed.

When we arrived we were greeted this hand towels to cool us off which was very nice. Once we got over to check in, the rooms weren't available. My girlfriend and I had to wait an additional 20 minutes after we've already waited 20 minutes for us to say that the rooms weren't available. When asked for wash clothes we only received one and had to keep asking for them everyday.

Once we got passed the humps in the road, everything else was beautiful except the young ladies in the photo shop. One girl had a very nasty attitude because we didn't want to but the entire package which cost $830.

I gave a two flowers because of the amount of money to travel to a foreign country and not have the best service was very disappointing.

Lack of security

After reading many reviews of this resort and wondering what is fact and what is fiction, I have just returned and would like to add mine to the mix.

The Animation crew was great! Fun and inviting. Thanks to Julio (50/50), Chocolatte & Coffee for a great time. Julio was the best !!!

The food ranged from poor to excellent depending where you ate. I will list the positives first and the areas of opportunity second.
The Japanese Restaurant was great on the first night but just okay on the second visit.

The Italian Restaurant will not disappoint.. I had the seafood risotto that was the best I have ever had. Other items there were just as good with the exception of the eggplant rolletini.

The main buffet was predictable with quality that ranged from fair to good.

The See & Sea was not very good, the food was just down right yucky. Wherever you eat stay away from the cold cuts they are just funky looking.

The D M (after hours like night food place) was the worst of the worst. We were starving and tossed our food.

The service in some places was very good and in others was just okay. Although tipping was included with your package you can that it was expected and service depended on how well you tipped.

The drinks are good. The Mamajuna rocks. The only beer is Presedenti.

While on the subject of drinks, the bartenders make about $75.00 US per week and want to keep their jobs. Therefor they allow many guests to drink as much as they want. They will not stop a guest from taking a bottle from the bar and pouring their own drinks as they fear loosing their job because of a guest complaint.

The lack of security on the property mixed with an intoxicated guest does not make for a fun trip as I have witnessed in person.

Room cleaning was just okay at best. If you want good room service you have to tip.

The beach was great as well as the pool.

Bring what you need and just know that things at the resort like shampoo are way over priced.

To wrap things up...Food just okay in most cases...Drinks are unlimited but not top shelf...Rooms are nice and clean but room service is lacking...Lack of security is a major concern and the reason that I would not recommend this resort to any one reading this.

Hope this helps with you decision. If I had a choice I would pick another resort.

The hotel lobby was awesome. They lost my reservation, so no room. Almost a year in advance and fully paid, still had to wait hours for room. Lost luggage. Its somewhere in the hotel but nobody knows where. I hunted it down myself.

The rooms were nice but a little shody. The views were fantastic. The beach was amazing. Bars and restaurants everywhere.

The service, the people, were very rude for the most part. They would ignore you or call you names in Spanish. If you ask for something, there is a real language problem. Unless you pull out dollar bills. Them the language barrier disappears as they begrudgingly take your dollar.

Most of the food is just bad. You will be hard pressed to find something good to eat. When you do, and try it again the next day, its not good. I actually lost weight on the trip.
To sum up, fantastic hotel, amazing scenery, poor service and worse food. I really enjoyed the good parts but the bad parts will keep me from going back.

May 05 2013. I don't know what to say here but that the airport is slow. The customs people are the most ignorant folks I have ever dealt with. They have people panhandling in the airport.

Its so hot, and no air conditioning. I guess one can't complain about the heat because, after all, that's why the resort is there.

Its confusing and even the people there to help. Hotel reps and the like aren't very fluent in English. So more confusion.

Bus ride in is good. The scenery is not.

Other Comments:
I don't know if I'm being a little harsh because I don't know what it takes to run a resort in a third world country.

But at the prices paid, one would think they could provide a little more service and a better trained staff. I did end up getting sick, don't know if it was food or water but the whole party of 30 something people I traveled with also got sick.

Worst travel experience ever, would NEVER go back or recommend anyone to go here ever. We researched and booked our trip back in Jan. before the place was open long enough to get many reviews and never thought to check back on recent reviews shortly before traveling to be sure things were still going well at Majestic. Wish we had known.

Now after our experience was so terrible and we return, we NOW see all these bad reviews online that totally corroborate our experience. Yes, the showers leak, the staff doesn't speak English, the service is terrible, it looks great but the construction is shoddy, the place isn't clean, the food is disgusting and there is a serious mold issue...this is not just one or 2 picky travelers complaining about anything they can...this is person after person saying the same exact thing. In the entire 12 days we were there, we only met one other person who was happy with their experience and it was someone who did not have prior experience at all-inclusive resorts or resorts at all for that matter. Anyone who goes here and says it is worth its value is an inexperienced traveler who does not know what 4 or 5 star entails. Anybody who HAS experienced that and expects luxury and pampering, will be completely frustrated with their time at the Majestic.

A bit of our experience:

1) They do not give you facial wash clothes. We had to call every day for them and then they would bring the wrong thing. In the 12 days we were there, never once did they bring the right thing or the right amount of towels/wash clothes for which we were asking. Might seem like a small thing, but it really starts to get annoying day after day after day

2) Staff does not speak English. Not a big deal until there is a problem. And there were LOTS of problems

3) Don't expect to get anything accomplished on the phone. Expect to spend a lot of time walking to the front desk if you want anything done or done right and tipping doesn't make it better

4) Staff is friendly until there is a problem, then they suddenly forget any English they might have known, especially when you ask for their manager and they pretend like they don't know what is going on.

5) Food - I just cannot begin to explain how terrible it is. Previous posts talk about how the food sits out for hours and it is true - it is disgusting. Seafood is gritty with sand, tough and chewy and very fishy. Very low quality meats. Dairy is scary. We were served dishes that were obviously made with spoiled cheese. Imagine every day of your trip, 3x a day, walking into a meal that you know is going to be barely edible...that's how great this vacation was. Had one good experience at the Cowboy restaurant and the last 2 experiences there were not good.

My husband I never had a honeymoon, so 8 years after exchanging vows we finally spent our anniversary/honeymoon at the Majestic Elegance. This was my first trip out of the country so I really had no idea what to expect. Upon arrival they gave us a woodenish band to wear that would allow us into the various restaurants and threatened us that if we lost it we would be charged $90. Threats already?

We were then met by our butler, Leo, who led us and 2 other couples in to each others rooms. It was extremely uncomfortable and awkward to go into other people's rooms and have others in ours.

We then were told that Leo "the butler" didn't have time to take care of us right now. This upset me because, after all, he was our BUTLER. Isn't that his job? We weren't given towel cards, which we were told was the only way we could get towels for the pool/beach and that if we lost those cards we would be charged $30. Yet another threat! Yikes!!

Our room had an awful smell and was extremely dirty. The chairs in the room had blood stains on them (YUK!!) and our jacuzzi didn't drain. The flowers they put out were all withered and dead and the toilet had urine (I'm hoping it was just urine) all over the seat. So on vacation I ended up having to clean my room. It was disgusting.

The food was awful, the service was awful and the staff was extremely rude. The resort smelled awful and it always seemed dirty.

Had it not been for the awesome company of my amazing husband, who was able to laugh it off, and the beautiful clear fish filled waters I would have given this resort 1 flower. If you have the money and can stay elsewhere I would recommend it.

We were in a swim up room with a bar just a few strokes away. It had stools in the water and that was pretty neat.
