Debbie's Dominican Old Reviews - Coyamar
Hotel Coyamar

August 2005
My family and I recently returned from a week long visit to Playa Bonita on the Samana peninsula where we stayed at the Hotel Coyamar. It's a small, ten room hotel (two buildings with five rooms each) with restaurant and bar and located off the beaten path near the town of Las Terrenas. This is an excellent place for those looking to avoid crowds, casinos, and the mega resorts; take life easy and experience the "real" Dominican Republic. The hotel staff is very friendly, the food is great and the beach is beautiful and not crowded. The rooms are spacious but beware - they are not air conditioned, only a ceiling fan, but they do cool off at night (my daughter and her husband had a first floor room which was much cooler than the second floor room my wife and I had). One can hike into town (~3 miles) or catch a motorcycle taxi or a regular taxi for shopping and dining. There are many tourist shops and restaurants in Las Terrenas. Peter, the hotel's owner, will arrange for a taxi to pick you up at the airport in Puerto Plata and take you back when your visit is over (about a three to three and one half hour taxi ride one way!). The cost is reasonable and included in your room bill. We really enjoyed our stay, hated to leave and will definitely try to make it back again!
