Santa Maria Del Mar 2 CondominiumTeresa ~ Cincinnati, Ohio
October 2007

This is a 1 bdr. condo listed on VRBO,price of $900/month is good. We stayed 3 months, paid in advance. Making the reservation and communicating with the owner via internet was easy. On arrivalto Punta Cana, a driver was to be waiting for us. No changes to our arrival time. However, no driver and when called the manager said no driver was coming. Cab drivers did not know where the condo was located, so it took quite a bit of figuring out on our part on how to get there. We payed for the cab. Later it seemed all the cab drivers knew where this well know condominium was located. The buildings appear beautiful and it is a very short walk to the most gorgeous beach with coconut trees and sandy beaches that seemed to go on for miles. The beaches here are fronted by major hotels. While the beach is public domain, the beach chairs are not. We found a path to the beach which is not located on hotel property, so our access was easy. We were very disappointed in our condominium.

Rooms - No furniture was comfortable. We are average size people but could not be comfortable in any chair or couch. The bed was very comfortable. There were many serious problems with this condo. The owner said the manager would handle every problem, but the manager had no idea how to fix most things. The kitchen was beautiful, stainless steel refrid., and oven/range but the oven did not work the entire three months. We had no hot water from the second week of our vacation. There were no cooking pots, pans, cassaroles, drinking glasses, or coffee cups. 2 forks, 6 knives, 5 spoons, 2 plates, 2 children size bowls. The owner promised to supply these but it never happened. Major bug problems. The water to the washing machine left the clothes very smelly. The was only ceiling light which had 15 watt light bulbs. The air conditioning worked some of the time. There was no CD/DVD or radio as advertised. The TV was often "out" and only played spanish channels except for CNN.

Bars - Very few bars outside of the hotels, but what was available was open air, friendly, good prices, good music, good service, made for a good time.

Beach and Pools - Our condo pool looked pretty though small. It was out of service at least 2/3 of the time we were there. The railing and steps into the pool were not put in until the middle of Feb. and was made of very cheap materiel. It broke free from the wall the first day. The steps were re-attached a week or two later, and pull free again. Acess to the beach was a short walk acroll the street and down a path. The hotels sit back from the beach and are not a problem. The beach is open to the public but the chairs are for the hotel guest and you could be asked to leave the chair. The beaches are very very beautiful and go on for miles. The coconut trees are magical and the sand is clean, fresh and easy to walk on.If we only stayed at the beach all day and night, I wouldn't have any complaints.

Grounds - Newer grounds, well done and will be lush as time goes on. a lot of parking for cars, but several spots come right up to the condo's on the first floor. All the shared spaces were very clean.

Avery big nuisance was the amount of building going on around us day and sometimes night 7 days a week. When the air conditioning in the bedroom was not working, opening windows was not an option. There were no screens on the windows, and the dirt, dust, and insects became part of the living space. Not to mention the safety concern of being robbed.

Tours - A wonderful bus tour to Santo Domingo (one day) was well planned. We had a good time, but too much is crammed in and we were so ready to get back. We took a side trip to Las Terranas for a week and rode the metro to and from. Inexpensive and comfortable. Las terranus was beautiful and fun, and easy to get around.

Conclusion - I would not return to this condo. We met many people from the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa and it was hit and miss as far as their accomodations. Water and electrical problems were every plentifull most places. One might ask why we stayed there. My landlord said I was expecting way too much from her and we could/should leave. Her idea of pro-rating the rent and mine were not even close. I looked for other condo's but because it was late in the season, most were booked or outrageous in the price because now it was HIGH season
