The weather was great and the hotel was beautiful, but we did have some problems our fan stopped working, the keys stopped working at least every other day and we were the furthest building from the lobby, the air conditioner leaked all over the floor twice, we called and complained and all they did was bring us towels, they also had someone come in while we were getting ready for dinner and change the mirror in the bathroom and he also took the hair dryer at that time for no reason and never brought a new one back. We also had problems with the staff if we were not out of our room by 8am and back before 5pm our room would not be cleaned for the day. They also had people constantly nagging you to go to their new resort down the street, at least 4-5 of them would bug you during the day while you were walking around and even while laying on the beach. The food was okay my boyfriend and another couple we met both got sick from the seafood. We did complain, but was told by the manager their was nothing he could do about anything, he was also very rude! You also can't swim in the ocean they have areas blocked off for coral reef or their are rocks everywhere, we learned the hard way with a couple new cuts and bruises on our feet and legs.

Room Number:
1117

Room Block:
Building 1

Arrival:
Very nice and helpful shown around the entire hotel

Restaurants and Bars:
Very small portions at the restaurants

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Very pretty, hard to find a spot to swim in the ocean without rocks coral reef or garbage

I'll start from when we arrived, the drive there from airport is an hour, Upon Arrival I went to check in and asked for a ground floor room and didnt get it, we have 3 kids aged, 12. 8 and 3 mths its very difficult to carry a stroller up a flight of stairs 4 to 10 times a day and would have been nice to have asked us if we would like a swim up room (no questions at all) Next point, launguage barrier..found it very difficult to communicate even at restauraunts this was a problme when we didnt get apps and every one else was on there dessert :( The food not tasty at buffet, the room service is nice and so was the walk up bar service very nice, but as i stated before, with having two kids ages 8 and 12, the ice cream machine was broken all week :( and you couldnt get icecream at buffet :( ( i know you may think this is petty but it's important when you pay any kind of money) My kids could only use the core zone certain times a day:( One major disapointment was if you go with a family the people making out in fron of you is crazy they were having forplay like crazy they should have a family friendly area where you could have adults that have kids and nothing dirty happening. I will say the spa was amazing, grounds were well kept. They are not accomadating for families imo, i would not reccomend this resort, all extra activities were expensive and a long way to travel

My family and I recently took a vacation at Dreams Punta Cana resort and spa.The ocean was beautiful and the weather was perfect. Every place has there negatives but this place had a quite a few of negatives. First of all broken glass and broken tile was often found to be on the floor of the pool. The last day we were there a young girl was taken away in a wheel chair from stepping on some broken glass which was laying on the bottom of the pool around the swim up bar.Around the iceberge made for kids to climb was a pile of broken tile laying around many kids were cut and scrapped on it and the workers were notified about this problem but no clean up was made. As you can see on the dreams punta cana resort and spa website there is an ocean trampoline. While we were here we tried to get up on the trampoline but we noticed it was impossible. There was no ladder to get up and the platform to jump was ripped. I give this resort 3 and half stars!!!

Room Number:
6104 and 6105

Restaurants and Bars:
The best restraunt in the resort is the adults only Italian resteraunt.

This was our first trip to the DR. I had heard all good things about Dreams and so we chose this based on word of mouth and that it was a 5 star resort.

Arrival:
Flew on Sunwing. Pleased to have a real meal, free headsets, and on the return, comp wine with dinner. Fun kits for the children on board, hot towels, chocolates.. Seats were comfortable and even without paying a premium, I believe more room in between rows than on Air Transat.

Rooms:
We were in building #3, 2nd floor. Deluxe VIP room with Sunwing. King size bed but it was on the very firm side. Three very soft pillows but you can call up and order different pillows to your liking. Little love seat, coffee table, desk which was more of a drop zone, since there wasn't a mirror or telephone on the desk. Clock radio, DVD player and TV with DirectTV so we got all the U.S. networks plus CNN. The bathroom was adequate. However the tub... it was very high, so a little stool to get in and out or a safety bar would have been nice. Plus, no shower curtain. Only a very small plexiglass partition so my bathroom floor got wet each and every time. Use bottle water to brush your teeth as the tap water is unsafe.
Closet with lots of hangers, iron, ironing board and shelves for your clothing.
You can also store your clothes in the cabinet under the television. There really are no drawers except for the small one in the night stand.

The mini safe was great to have and we used it. We were actually warned by staff at the hotel, not to leave your valuables laying around your room as he said "many people can go in and out of your room during the day". I'm assuming he means maintenance and housekeeping.

The fridge did not keep anything cold. When I asked at the front desk, they advised the fridge is not to keep things cold, just fresh. um ok.

Restaurants and Bars:
Can't complain when you don't have to wear a wristband AND you don't need to waste a morning booking your a la carte meals for the week!!
Our favourite restaurant was the French. (no kids permitted and men must wear pants) Our least favourite was the Japanese (pants for men) They have three seatings for the cooking tables which you do have to prebook at 6pm the night you want to have dinner. But they also have a sushi bar here, and an a la carte Chinese restaurant also. We opted for the cooking tables. The salad had a mystery dressing, shrimps with tails still on them. The soup tasted like chicken gravy, and unfortunately the food was over cooked. PLUS.. the chef seemed a little young and inexperienced. He dropped utensils while cooking.. used the serving fork from the raw chicken to cut up the beef and then later for the mahi mahi.
The bars... a bar is a bar is a bar. The swim up pool bar was popular.
And on the opposite side, the "ground" bar also had a popcorn machine, soft ice cream machine and capuccino machine ! don't drink too many coconut milk based drinks or you will get the runs !

The staff at all the restaurants and bars were awesome. They are always happy to serve. A nice treat was the fruit lady.. She had a stand set up near the pool and you could get an assortment of fresh pineapple, melon, mango, papaya, coconut .. yummmy !

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The grounds were clean.

The pool is supposed to be the biggest one in the DR. Our problem was access.
Although it's only 3 feet deep, you can't always jump in and jump out. There are very little stairs and so access was an issue. Especially around the pool bar. There was one ladder(not stairs ) to get out AND in. And the bathroom was at the pool bar (for those that used it, otherwise I kept hearing people were just doing it in the pool !!) This pool is definitely not accessible to the elderly or disabled. They have floaties but bring your own if you want to be sure to get one everyday. The pool closes at 6pm daily.

The actual beach was fine. Lots and lots of chairs and palapas.. You really don't need to go and reserve in advance by throwing your towel on a chair.
However, THE OCEAN in front of the hotel is useless. You cannot swim as there is a huge coral reef right there. The water keeps churning up sand so you cannot see your feet or the ocean floor. Had I known this in advance, I would never have booked Dreams PC as we love to swim in the ocean . I would book a hotel on the Caribbean rather than the Atlantic.

If you stay to the left, past the boat rentals, you can use the beach but you're no longer on resort property. The hotel does not own the beach, it's owned by the gov't. So, they assume no responsibility for injuries.. and there were a number of people cut up from the coral.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Internet.. if you're not in Preferred Club, you can use the Internet Cafe in the main lobby . They have various rates depending on time needed.
We paid $4.00USD for 15 minutes.

Shopping ... we didn't buy anything at the resort. And the vendors that set up their tables twice a week are very aggressive and bothersome and I hated to walk by the Plaza en route to the lobby because they were there.

Beach Towels.. always available.

Room Block:
building 2

Arrival:
Upon arrival we were greeted with Champagne and cookies, very nice. The guy on desk didn't like my westjet hotel voucher, he wanted the printout from my computer but eventually he accepted the westjet one. We were Preferred club so we couldn't check in at the front desk. We waited while someone came and took us to the preferred club to do checkin. Had to walk the entire length of the resort to get to this club. Checkin at the club was fast and easy and we were on our way to find our room in the dark. It would have been nice to be shown to our room as it was not in the preferred buildings as we expected but over a bridge and through a couple of other buildings.

Rooms:
The rooms were the most disappointing. They were very small and had a connecting room which had noisy neighbours that seemed to drag furniture around late every night. There was barely room for two suitcases and no dressers to unpack in. There was only one robe but two slippers, not a big deal but I would think they'd notice that when preparing the room. The bathrooms were very small with a phone on the wall beside the toilet. I don't get that at all. The bathrooms were clean and cleaned daily so that was good. The air conditioning didn't work on arrival and we called and a service man came and fixed it. The air broke again two days later and again got fixed. The fridge didn't work on arrival either but that too got fixed. Small annoyances but we expected more.

Restaurants and Bars:
We didn't eat at all the restaurants. Oceana, Seaside Grill, Portafino's and the buffet were the ones we tried. All three a la cartes were exceptional and service was exellent at both buffet and the a la cartes. We found the food at the buffet was good but cold most nights. Can't say enough about how wonderful the servers are and all the staff at the resort. Breakfast at Oceana was much the same as the buffet and not near as busy as the buffet so we ate there most mornings as it was closer to our room and the beach.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The grounds were very beautiful and the pool was very nice too. I watched the guests stake their claim at the pool each morning from our balcony and all the loungers were claimed but 7;30 at the latest even though the people didnt show up til much later. this claim staking went on at the beach every morning as well but not quite as early. You could still find a place by 9am usually but not any later. We watched some staff take money from guests to get them a beach lounger and they just grab towels off a chair and drag it to the guests. One lady followed the chair trails over near where we were and started yelling wanting her chairs back. I wish there was a solution to this chair thing as it seems to be an issue at most resorts although this one was the worst we've witnessed. One of the beach beds broke with two people on it but the didn't get hurt but that was just lucky, an example of the resort needing some TLC. There is a spot of the beach roped off for preferred guests but its not the nicest part of the beach so we only went there once. The beach was beautiful but very rough. I would not take children to this beach. We were disappointed by this but that was my own fault for not researching the resort beforehand as I usually do. For this reason alone we would not return to this resort.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
The spa was so nice. It seemed it was two for one day at the spa for massages every day and we took advantage of this deal one day on the beach. Very nice.

Other Comments:
This resort is lovely but spread out too much for our taste. Not very good for anyone with a mobility issue. I can't say enough about how great the entire staff is.

It's a nice resort but needs updating, big time, leaking A/C units into the wedding couples room, things missing on arrival to rooms, 5 star, and they give you a map on how to find your room??? the biggest thing was 10 out of 12 people got sick, the 4 kids within days of being there, and the adults by the last day and when at home, more time off work! But not in a good way, The doctors @ home blame it on a virus, and most common from the food, sometimes the food was strange looking and when you ask, the hired staff had trouble understanding english, every answer was cee cee, or yes yes, one example was horse back riding off site, through the hotel you pay the day before, the horses are 7 min. from the resort, the taxi runs out of fuel, the answer was two min., for more fuel, 2 min. to resort, 2 min. to horses, everything is 2 min., then when we get there the horses are not ready!!! anyway this family will never be going back to the Dominican anytime soon!!!!!! I hope your stay is better !

Arrival: March 7 - 14
Booked a Sunwing package through selloffvacations.com. Arrived on time morning of March 7th. Airport was a breeze! Only 7 people going to Dreams so had a van just for us. Drive was fine. Arrival at resort went smoothly. Room not ready but we were prepared for this. Put on our swimsuits and headed to the pool!

Rooms
My husband and I and our two children, 9 & 7, arrived at our Junior Suite mid afternoon. Nice room but we were expecting two beds and a pull-out sofa. Had a king size four poster, a couch (that didn't pull out) and a loveseat (which did pull-out). Not exactly as planned. Two calls to the front-desk for a cot got us one before bedtime. When it was time for bed, we could not pull out the loveseat into a bed so my daughter slept on the couch. By the next evening, loveseat was pulled out and made up into a bed (couch was apparently more comfortable). The plug in the hot tub on the deck would not close so you couldn't fill up. Never complained about it as it wasn't really needed. Water in shower had a mind of its own - mostly alternated from scalding hot or freezing cold but with enough "warm" in between to clean up. We were in Building 8 on the 2nd floor. No view per se but was very quiet and an easy walk to everything. I really wish there had been a screen on the do! or and in the window. Not a big fan of air-conditioning and the lovely breeze that we had all week would have been wonderful. Overall, room was a good size (would have been awesome for two) and clean. Safe worked. Coffee machine worked. Two T.V.'s with a DVD player in the sitting area that worked. Lots of storage but not enough hangers. Large vanity with two sinks. Every evening with turn-down service you received the "Sundial" which was information on the following days events. Restaurants and Bars: Went to the buffet for breakfast every morning. Perfect. Staff friendly and efficient. Had lunch at pool or buffet. Tried out several of the a la cartes - Oceana, Himitsu (one night we tried Chinese, the next "Japanese") and the Seaside Grill. All were fine. Good service and always something on the menu that everyone liked. Unfortunately, my husband became very sick the 2nd day and his stomach remained upset the remainder of the week. My children had occasional upset stomachs and bathroom issues throughout the week. I also had issues during the week. Not sure what caused the problems. As of writing this (2 days after the trip) we are all still feeling "off" and have "bathroom issues".

Beach/Pools/Grounds
Lovely. Very breezy during the week so waves were big most days and prevented any watersports (sail boats, etc.). Well maintained property.

Tour Op: Sunquest Vacations

To start with, let me explain that I am NOT a fussy traveller, just give me a clean room, nice location and working amenities, and I am pretty happy go lucky.

We booked the Dreams Punta Cana first off because of reviews and comments from friends and other members of this board. We booked it in August and the anticipation for this trip built day by day as it does for most travellers. Unfortunately, due to events that occurred during our stay here, we will not be going back to this resort again. Let me be clear, it was due to our own personal experiences that decided this, and not solely due to the resort or tour operator.

I will start this review with general comments about the resort, and then will get into the nitty-gritties of our trip.

ARRIVAL
Our arrival went without a hitch. We arrived at Punta Cana airport, and quickly went through customs and baggage pickup. As usual, we picked up a bottle or two of 'nectar of the gods' before boarding the minibus to the resort. We arrived about 40 minutes after leaving the airport, our resort being the driver's only stop.

ROOMS
The rooms we received, Block 3, Room 3216, was on the second floor of the middle building. When we got this room, we were so pleased that it faced the pool, and the nice views of the grounds. When we got into the room, this changed very quickly. We had contacted the resort before hand, as we always do, and requested twin beds. We arrived and got a room with a queen. We contacted the front desk immediately, and were told that is all they had at the moment, but would move us as soon as a room was available. ( More about this later). The room itself was very dated and had several problems. Bar fridge didn't work, coffee maker didn't work, screen was off the balcony door and just leaning against the wall inside our room, the lock on the balcony door was broken and couldn't be locked without slamming it very hard. We had maintenance there 5 times to fix this, and it still wasn't fixed by the time we left. The vanity in the bathroom was cracked from top to bottom. The cabinet and closet doors did not close properly and were misaligned.

RESTAURANTS
This was one of the highlights of this experience. The food, ambience, and staff in the restaurants was absolutely top notch!!! We tried each of the Ala cartes for dinner, and ate at the buffet for breakfast and some of the lunches. We also ate lunches at the beach BBQ which was also exceptional.

BARS
Again, the bars and staff at all the bars were exceptional. Very courteous and very quick. The lobby bar and pool bar staff are definitely second to none.

My family and I stayed at Dreams Punta Cana recently. My husband and 2 teenage daughters brought in the new year here and loved it! The staff was extremely efficient and eager to please us. I tried to do as much research as I could before we arrived and I'll admit I was a little worried based on some of the reviews I was reading. I've been to the Dominican 3 times and I can tell you this...if you're looking for a friendly, beautiful family destination, you will not be disappointed! We were in building 5. Adjoining rooms #5219 and 5220. We checked in and easily got to our room that was clean and perfectly ready for us. The pool, which runs the entire length of the resort blew me away. So gorgeous! The restaurants were amazing. The Italian restaurant was our favorite. Being an all inclusive resort, the portion sizes are small, but very satisfying. There was absolutely nothing I have to complain about. The people at this resort did everything they could to make our stay the very best they could. My kids loved the teen club, The Core Zone. They met some new friends and had a blast on the rock wall, the mechanical bull, the pool tables and Wii games. I will tell you that it is not supervised quite the way they say in the brochure, so unless your kids are older I would not drop them off there assuming they will be watched over.
The live shows every night were AMAZING! The entertainment staff is really something to see! Overall, a great way to spend a family vacation!

Room Number:
5219&5220

Arrival:
Punta Cana airport is a little hectic and unorganized, but overall, we found our tour guide easily and the transportation to our resort went very well. No problems at all!

Rooms:
We stayed in the Family Deluxe room. It was 2 adjoining standard rooms. Both rooms had a private balcony and bathroom. Each had a fully stocked fridge everyday. Room 5219 had 2 queen beds for the kids and 5220 had a king size bed for my husband and me. Both rooms have their own TV, love seat, desk and closests and drawers. Housekeeping did a very nice job...don't forget to put the maid service card in the door or you wont have service until late in the day. We also discovered that if you leave a tip your room is cleaned immediately. If not, you wait.

Restaurants and Bars:
All of the restaurants and bars were fabulous. Our favorite restaurant was the Italian restaurant. The World Cafe, which is a buffet that opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner is also great! Again, the service was wonderful and people really treated us very well.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The pool at this resort will blow your mind! It runs from the front of the resort and ends at the ocean. It is kept very clean with wait staff available to take drink orders at any time. The beach was gorgeous! They have plenty of lawn chairs so you're not walking around wishing you had a seat during the day. The grounds keepers were there at the crack of dawn every day raking leaves and cleaning the grounds, trimming bushes and trees and making things beautiful everyday!

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
There was always something to do right on the resort. We did several activities off the resort, but on the days when we stayed at the resort, they had the entertainment staff walking around dancing with people, aerobics everyday, volleyball, great swimming, rock walls, mechanical bulls, movies by the pool every night and the live entertainment in the theater was amazing. A new show every night.

Other Comments:
I highly recommend this resort. We left with smiles on our faces and memories that will last a lifetime!

I am a travel agent and this is the third Dreams I have been too and once again, I was not disappointed. The only reason I give this resort 4 stars as opposed to 5 was due to lack of maintenance on the rooms. Out of our group there were a few couples that had problems with their safes or key cards. It was quickly attended to when addressed which was good but after talking to other guests on the resort we quickly found out this was a common occurrence. Other than this small set back, the resort is quite lovely.

Arrival:
We flew with Sunwing and arrival was very late. The airport was quick to get through though. Very nice airport in Punta Cana. Very Open and Airy. We had an hour commute from the airport to the resort which seemed longer than it was due to our awful landing time of 11 p.m. Under different circumstances the ride would have been more scenic and interesting. Our check in at Dreams was quick and easy. It only took them about ten minutes to get our bags to our rooms and we were at the furthest end of the resort because we wanted beach front.

Rooms:
The Rooms were very clean and crisp. The King bed we had was very soft and comfy with great big oversized pillows. all rooms have balconies which are nice to sit out on and listen to the waves in the early morning or late night.

Restaurants and Bars:
The resort has many dining and drink options. The food is good with a lot of choice and there are no reservations required for any of the restaurants which is a definite plus in my books.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The pool is large so it never feels overly crowded, The beach could use a few more lounges as it is such a lovely beach that it is very crowded and we found it hard to find seating for the 16 of us but thanks to a wonderful staff member, we never had to go searching for seating. He would haul them from the far end of the beach if we needed him too.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
The entertainment and activities are plentiful with snorkeling, wind sailing, nightly shows, movies under the stars, a disco bar to groove in... The list could go on and on. They have a kids club and a teens club which look fabulous. The explorers club (for younger kids) has a great big pirate ship with a small pool surrounding it. The smaller ones partake in games, crafts and pool activities. The Core Zone (teens club) which is hidden in it's own little nook complete with it's own drink bar has archery, darts, bicycle tours, pool tables, Internet cafe, a disco and the list goes on. My 10 year old son and 13 year old daughter would have loved this resort! Off resort we did the Outback Safari Tour which I would do again in a heart beat. This excursion gives back to the community by helping those less fortunate which I think is superb. My husband and I made a donation and a friend of mine brought school supplies and toys for the local children. For more info on this excursion go to http://www.outbacksafari.com We also did the Carribean festival Catamaran/Stingray and Shark Encounter. I was not impressed with this excursion. It was very disorganized. They were late getting us to our departure beach and we stood there for half an hour waiting for the catamaran to be unloaded on top of that. The stingray/shark encounter was interesting but short and the snorkeling was also very short. not to mention the water was very choppy to be able to properly snorkel so not much was seen besides sergeant fish.

Staff:
The staff at dreams were easy going, friendly and helpful. Our favourite staff member, Carmen was an excellent beach server. She was entertaining, fun and made you feel welcome. She did her job better than well. We never came across one bad employee of the course of our whole trip.
