Azzurro Beach Hotel Wayne and Patty
March 2007

My husband and I spent two weeks at this resort, in Feb..and had a Fantastic time......We are from Canada......and travel to the Dominican every year........This resort is in such a super location......right in Cabarete, Beach front, it is very well maintained.........clean, small and very friendly...............we had a super deal from selloffvacations.com.and were ever so pleased to see what we got...............The food was good,,,,,,,,not great,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the bars were super,,,,,,,,,the beach bar and restaurant had great lunches.......pizza and french fries etc............the service was absolutely fantastic ....they all deserve mention............We went to the Italian restaurant and it was lovely..........never tried the other............ So much to do here...........the best beach in the Dominican............turn right from the resort and walk along the restaurants and stores and hotels of Cabarete, stop for a drink and if you turn left , you can walk for hours...........past resorts. watch the kitesurfers.........a lovely experience...........The pool is lovely, clean and refreshing.........you can swim in the pool and at the same time .look out over the ocean...........wow. Cabarete has improved over the years and is a busy, but quaint town..........there are alot of stores now.....with prices marked on the goods........so eliminates the bartering ........and don't forget the liquidation world for best buys on souveniers etc...........some new stores.........lovely ....Casino at the end of Cabarete.....past the Windsurf Resort and it's very clean and bright and nice.......... All in all.........this was great vacation.......the location and the people made it that way.........enjoy

This resort was great. Read the review from Kim of May 2006 - it is true. We did not do any excursions but the rest is an excellent review.

The staff are great, the animation team were very nice and our Go Travel Direct Rep - Lise was always there whenever you needed to ask a simple question.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteKim
May 2006

I just came back from Azzurro yesterday night and I am deeply saddened that I now have to go back to work! But still, I will tell you more about the hotel and its activities so you have NO WORRIES while travelling over there.

First and foremost, we weren't too sure about going to Caberete since it's in the heart of the city and the ratings we had read online weren't all that good. I am 18 years old and I travelled with my 19year old boyfriend for the first time and let me assure you; we had a blast!

While travelling with Gotraveldirect.com, the service was absolutely amazing (thank you Lise, for everything!). I would greatly suggest this site to book a vacation; low prices and amazing staff. Anywho, we arrived at the Azzurro Beach Resort (a bus of about 60 people) and the check in was phenominally quick. Our room had 2 doubles beds; we could of gotten a King size bed but we were already unpacked at that point so that seemed useless. The rooms were clean, the mini-bar (2 pepsi, 2 7-up and 2 beers) were free and stocked every other day. Sure, one morning there was a spider in the bathtub but you have to keep in mind that you are in the Dominicans and not in Canada. We had no problem at all with our room as we rented a safe deposit box for 20$US. No gecko or cockroaches in the room; well, we didn't see some anyways.

The staff over at Azzurro are amazing! The activies staff always have something for everyone; either it's yoga, volleyball tournaments, dancing, pingpong tournaments and so on. Plus, you can take a boogieboard, a kayak for free for 1hour a day which we thought was pretty fun. There's also a surfboard shop close to the hotel so you can rent a surfboard or just bribe the locals to have one.

There are plenty of vendors that are trying to sell you stuff on the beach.
A simple 'no gracias' usually does the work. Yes, they can be persistent but you have to stay firm. (little tip : walk down the town for about 5 minutes and you will see a big white building written LIQUIDATION on it..... the stuff there is sooooooooooooooooooooo cheap. *RHum bottle for 160 pesos which is about 5-6$U.S)

There were loungers for everyone and fresh new towels were given to you in exchange of the towel card everyday. The beach was neat, there were huuuuge waves. It was also fun to see the locals walk down the beach; remember this is not really a Resort with gates and everything; it's in the heart of Cabarete.

The food at the hotel was good although we didn't like the French one. The buffet had lots of varietys and the Italien and Spanish restaurant were delicious! You only have to book a day in advance in order to eat at the 4 à-la-carte restaurants. The bars are stocked at the most and they're not cheap when giving you liquor. The bartenders are amazing and quick as lightening.

Alot of tours are offered at the hotel : we went to Sosua Bay (free shuttle; complimentary hotel of Azzurro) and we ate and went on the beach there for free. It was night eating at a 5* hotel without charge!. Also, we went on the Catamaran.. a must do! The banana boat is amazing; the staff is entertaining and the view is breathtaking. They take you to Sosua in order to do some snorkling and that is really the highlight of the day. You know how they tell you not to buy tours from the beach? Well we bought the doom-boggies tours and weren't dissapointed. Only 65$ for both as it would of been 60$ each at the hotel. During that tour, we visited the banana trees, went to see a beach and even stopped in a small town; it really gets to you once you see how poor the Dominican really are.

Also, at night time, there is a movie for the little ones and after a show comes up. Usually it's dancing shows; they are really good. Props to the dancers! Two shows were about the travellers that went on stage to dance, drinks, etc. Entertaining!

The music at the hotel goes down until about midnight and then, if you take a stroll on the beach, you can get to the Bamboo nightclkub. It is a typical Dominican club, had no problem with it, really safe. The drinks are about 90 to 100 pesos (about 3$US) but if you're smart, you fill up at the hotel.

Final note to say that Azzurro was Great!!! ANd I would rate it about a 4*.. it was clean, entertaining, the staff were amazing. We had an incredible time and would go back in a heartbeat.

If you have any questions, feel free to write me an email (cocotte_powah@hotmail.com) and I would be glad to help you out!! VIVA DOMINICANA!!!

Azzurro Beach Hotel - Cabarete Dawn & Phil ~ Halifax
April 2006

My husband and I and 2 other couples recently returned April 8 from a one week stay at Azzurro Beach resort form Halifax with Go Travel Direct. Initially, we were nervous about this resort as the reviews were not all that great but we had a fantastic time! The following is a brief consenus of 6 people/3 rooms

The rooms -try to stay in #7 that was there is no construction nearby and you get a view of the pool or ocean depending on what side your on. The rooms are nice & clean, never once ran out of hot water and proximity to pool/bar/beach is great. All items (TV,AC,Fridge, hairdryer, locks, etc ) all worked. The only thing is the power would go out sometimes several times a day-but it only lasted a min or 2!! Make sure to by a safe lock-extra $$ but worth it. We didn't have any bugs but I hear thet there were alot of spiders (big ones!!) in a few rooms.

The Food I am a very picky eater and never had a problem. The buffet is predicable but you can always find something to eat. The a la cartes are OK French and Italian are good, Brazilian I didn't really care for, and the Spanish is good if you like payalla. We booked the first setting and since there was 6 of us we were rushed a few times as there was another sitting 11/2 hours later.

The Service -GTD person was awesome, we booked a trip horseback riding and they forgot to pick us up and we just called our rep and it was fixed for the next day. People at reception were great, with enough English to help you. Found everyone friendly-no complaints. The grounds were always clean, litter free.

The beach - My favorite-lots of chairs, cabanas to rent, clean close to the resort, washrooms etc. The only downside was the venders somedays they were evil and would not give up. The pools and hot tubs were clean and lots of chairs and things to do. To bad they shut the hot tub off in the PM!!

Overall, we liked this resort for the $$ we paid, the proximity to the airport, the town and the nightlife. I have paid more and stayed in a lot worse! Also you could go into the Victorian House, the sister hotel and eat/hang out. I would have no hesitations returning to this hotel and for all those bad reviews- some times people forget its a 3rd world country and different standards apply and sometimes you just have bad luck. We had a great time and were all very pleased with the resort !

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteMarie ~ Canada
April 2006

We went on March 31, 2006 to Azzuro Beach Resort in Cabarete for 7 days and loved it. It was awsome. The food was great with a large variety and there was always food, if not at the buffet, at the snack bar or at the bar. The staff was very pleasant. The rooms were clean. The beach was totally awsome with a really nice breeze and smooth sand. The pools are also very nice. All in all, this was a great holiday and I would recommend it to anyone. We did not take part in the entertainment so cannot comment on it. GoTravelDirect rep on site was great!!!.

April 2006

I have just returned the Azzurro resort on April 1st.and enjoyed our time there. We went with Go Travel Direct from Ottawa with Zoom air. The flight was great both ways and the Go Travel rep. was very help full and pleasant. The check in and check out was very fast and smooth. The room was clean and every thing worked. The food was good but remember this a 3 star resort and the variety is not as large as 4 star or better. The beach is great. The pools are small. There are plenty of tours offered and we did go on a few. The best was Outback Jungle Safari. I did hear people complain about the food wanting hamburgs fries and so on, this not Canada or the USA so don't look for it here. All in all this is a good 3Star resort.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteSterling and Kim ~ Canada
March 2006

After reading the many reviews for this year and last, we would like to inform people that there is actually two resorts, Azzurro Club Estrella and Azzurro Club Caberete. These two resorts look like one, they share everything. Building 6 and 7 are Caberete, these are the 5 year old building and the other building are Estrella and they are 15 years old. The difference is night and day.

Caberete
-stocked fridges, dressers, very clean, patio furniture on balcony

Estrella
-no fridges, no dressers(desk with 2 tiny drawers, no room for clothes), dirty bathrooms, very poor house keeping, your a/c might work or NOT(ours did not work even after we told guest services 2 days in a row, nothing was done), you might have dirty plastic chairs and table on balcony(ours did most did not), bugs-got a fumigation notice day before we left, clothing racks in closet covered in grime, room smelled musty and was very humid because a/c did not work, doors to rooms not very secure, you might get a safe key when you check in many had to wait 1-2 days, sewage smell all around buildings.

Resort Itself
Appeared to be run down and dirty unlike reviews from last year. The food was terrible when we went, there was no chicken strips, burgers, cheese for nachos for the snack bar all there was was lousy hot dogs and pizza IF they would make one. Public washrooms on resort were filthy(water on floors no hot water all week). Two out of three pools opened, or course the swim up bar and waterfall pool was the one closed. Saw only two garbage cans on whole resort. Three public ashtrays, two in lobby and one outside buffet entrance. Ashtrays themselves were scarce. So over all there was cups and butts everywhere. Other couples we talked to had same opinion and same problems in the Estrella part, we meet a couple who were in the Caberete part building #7 and their rooms and ours were night and day. We did not enjoy the food at all and are not picky eaters, so it has apparently run down considerably from last year, but even some of the reviews from last year had some of the same problems. Games room was a joke, large area, two broken pool tables, the rest empty. Beach is great, location is great, now if they could only fix up building, food, equipment, house keeping, guest services and ALL POOLS, it would be a good resort, but we will not go back there to either Estrella or Caberete until we start to read excellent reviews.

We are very disappointed for spending the kind of money we did and receiving a low budget resort.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteMark ~ Canada
March 2006

My family and I just returned from a two week vacation Feb. 14th -28th 2006 and I am extrememly upset. This resort is not a 3.5 star, more like a 2 star in my eyes.

First of all, it may be just what your looking for if your young and your going to a resort to party and you don't care what kind of condition your room is in or you have no idea what a 4 star resort offers.

To begin with, we had the flight from hell and arrived at 7:30pm instead of our scheduled 3:30pm and upon arrival to the resort we were booked in and taken to our first room which was in the red building(#1 I believe )and on the ground floor. Due to it raining we walked into our room entrance which was nothing but a puddle as the rain was coming in under the door. The room was dirty looking and let me tell you about our bathroom. The ceiling was not attached and you could see up through the building, there was mould in the corners of the tub area, the counter space and the toilet had leaves in it not to mention the water was brown. The light fixtures were nothing but lightbulbs hanging down from the ceiling and to top things off when I turned on the tub the whole faucet came off in my hand. My son had the whole shower head fall off and land on his face as he was showering!! The sliding glass door that lead to our ground floor patio would not lock and really what did that matter because the glass in the frame was not even intact! We requested to move 3 times before getting a room we felt safe in and it was half liveable for our two week stay. The second room they took us to had no airconditioning that worked and the t.v was broken, the third room that we settled for was a bit cleaner but we had to tip out $40 US dollars to have one of the staff from the front desk bring us a fridge and a converter for the t.v as without the convertor we would only get Spanish channels. Each time we moved was like pulling teeth from the staff at the front desk. They will not move you willingly and they tried to tell us that the resort was booked full, no rooms left and the other half of the staff at the front desk either didn't speak English or they pretended not to so that we would just go away. The Guest Service desk was no help either, they as well did not want to move us willingly, they also spoke poor English and trying to communicate any concern you may have with them was next to annoying!

So if you are planning on travelling to this resort be warned that all rooms do not neccesarily have a fridge, nor an airconditioner that works, or a tv that works if your even given a t.v. Not all rooms have a hairdryer and not all balconys will have chairs for you to sit on and be forewarned that the towels are dirty looking ( clean I would hope but brown in color) The maid will not put a washcloth in your room when linens are changed as they have no washclothes and the boy's at the front desk have no idea what a washcloth is!! If you do happen to find one as I did after a few day's and I had to steal it off the maids cart, hide it each day so the maid does not take it on you ( you will not get another one! ) Also be forwarned that if you do have a fridge, yes they supply you with water but it is in a jug and not individual bottles ( not a big deal really) but you have to go down to the front desk and ask for more when you run out, the maids ( not all and not each day ) will not replenish your fridge. You also have to go to Guest Services each day and request your pop or your beer for your fridge, the maids do not do this either, for whatever reason they are not allowed. I had to work each morning to make sure I had everything I needed for the day and I was even tipping but to no avail, got nothing in return so don't think that if you tip your going to have better servcice. It doesn't work like that around Azzurro.

Two out of three pools were up and running while I stayed there two weeks. ( the other pools that were up and running were nice though ) The grounds of this resort are really beautiful but as one review had stated, it's like a beautiful lady who let herself go room wise and service wise. We did however enjoy Pablo and get to know Wascar who sit at the front desk, they were the only ones who spoke good English and were kind in helping us settle in.

The Buffet was something else however I did manage to find things to eat the only problem was that I ate the same things every day because the selection seemed to be the same every day and this is in a two week period!! They changed the menu's once or twice the whole time I was there. No bacon ever for breakfast and the scrambled eggs were not healthy looking. This resort has not enough of anything to accomodate the people they take in. If your not in the dining room for the first sitting then beware that your either sitting at a table that has food all over the linen or there is not any napkins, glasses or an ashtray and you'll have to go to other tables around you ( if there are any empty ones ) and take what you need to set up for your meal. We also found that they do not switch the linens, they just turn them over when they get really bad looking and the napkins were wet half the time, as though they had just been washed. There were one too many times that we showed up for a meal to find no plates and they were putting out a small amount of styrofoam ones until they could get the ones that hopefully had been washed properly back out to stack up and they were always wet too!! A constant running out of cutlery. My husband and I had several meals down at Jose O' Sheas and I find that rather insane when we paid for all inclusive but the one night, there was a line up right down to the bar as they were accomodating a crowd that was not leaving until 12 midnight and another group had just come in that day as well so they had double the usual crowd to feed that night.

I also want to mention the management. I'm not sure if anyone is aware ( we were told this by a staff member ) but the Azzurro is owned and opperated by a Dominican who is never arround and has the same mentality as the Dominican which is " Manania" The computers went down one night after a plane from Ottawa had been given comp. rooms for an extra night due to weather detainment and unfortunately another plane from Montreal had made it in around 2 am in the morning and they had to go around the resort and find the people who'd been given the rooms, to tell them that they were leaving. Since the computers were down, they had no idea where everyone was and we had a fellow walk right into our room at some ungodly time of the night to see if our room was empty!! Thank god we had the chain on the door because he just used his key and tried to walk in. They have no idea what they are doing there. The next day, I had a welcome to Azzurro message slipped under my door because they thought that the room I had was one that they'd given to the new group that came in from Montreal!! I had switched rooms 3 times when I first arrived and they had no idea where I was!!

The entertainment is great if your an adult, lots of drinking games and ladies coming up on stage to chair dance like strippers, just what I want my children to see!!

Also be warned that the security is nil. they have a fellow at the front of the resort to let vehicles in through the bar but it's just a matter of lifting it and I find the security pretty bad considering we are right on the Cabarete strip, in the middle of main street where anyone can just walk in. They also allow the young boy's with the bowls on their heads selling their goodies to walk right up off the beach and onto the resort and numerous times saw them in the bar area, walking around the resort with drinks etc. having a wonderful time!! Great people to meet but be warned, don't leave anything laying around because they will take it in a heartbeat! Peddlers also allowed up into the resort to torment you to buy their goods. I just didn't find that right. I understand that if your down by the ocean on the beach it's free for all and you do spend half your day saying no thanks and being tormented by the peddlers but you should at least be safe and free from the aggrivation when your up in the resort!!

Anyway, I am so disappointed, I spent alot of money to stay at this resort and it was not one I will stay at again. Also want to mention that while we were there the one sister resort in Sosua was off limits due to health and safety concerns and the other sister resort is nothing but an extra building on the other side of pool which by the way, if you get put into the red, yellow and other brightly colored buildings, the rooms in the other building that I just mentioned as being the sister resort........they cost more money

Find out which side of the resort your staying in first before you book because it really does make a difference.

I guess that I should also mention that the games room is a joke. Two pool tables but only enough balls for one table and both tabels are broken so when you sink your balls they will fall out and likely go down the stairs.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteJean-Luc ~ Canada
January 2006

I was at Azzurro in December ( 02 to 16 ) 2005, and loved this resort;

Hotel: Perfectly located in the center of Cabarete, in walking distance from bars, restaurants, discos etc all accessible by the beach or the main street. Stayed in building 7 on the ground floor, and yes we had a cricket or two and evev a baby lizard in our room, but you are in a tropical climate and this comes with the territory... The rooms we're very nice and cleaned every day. Everything worked well. Tip: if you are going to Azzurro, try to stay in building 6 or 7, they are newer , and better situated. My rating: 4*

Staff: Perfect, i have to agree with Dave, they went all out to make sure you had a wonderfull trip. Wagner was very good, but my favorite was Virgillio, and also Sandro was pretty good.Like in Canada, a little tiping goes a long way. ( i would tip 5$ a day at the beach bar and 5$ a day at the Hurricane bar. Believe me it's worth it. My rating: 5*

Food: Buffet was good, you could easily find something you liked. Italian restaurant was very good. barazilian was good. My rating: 3.5*

Beach: Nice big waves to swim in. Beach is a bit dirty, but that is because most of the tourists do not use the trash cans. The beach is cleaned every morning at 06:00 am. Nice to see that only wind related water sports take place at Cabarete Bay. My rating: 5+*

Cabarete: Very nice town. Cabarete is not like Puerto Plata or Punta Cana, because it has not been invaded by mega hotels all included like the other places, which in return makes it fun and interesting to mingle with the Dominicans. There are only 3 AI in Cabarete, which i believe makes it a more friendly place. My rating: 4+*

All in all , this was my 8th trip to the DR, i'm 39 years old, and loved Azzurro and Cabarete. I've stayed at 5* hotels, and alot of them have less to offer than Azzurro.

I really recommend Cabarete and the Azzurro. Try it , you will love it...

Azzurro Beach Hotel - Cabarete Dave ~ Canada
January 2006

I just got back from Azzurro Resort in Cabarete. I went with my girlfriend + 12 others (all from Montreal and all in our twenties) from Dec. 30th to Jan 6th. We all stayed for one week & most of us wanted to stay longer. All in all, an awesome trip!!

Resort :
The Azzurro Resort is really impressive. The resort itself is beautiful and the location is perfect. Great party town…5min walk down the beach & you will find plenty of bars and clubs. Bamboo is everyone’s favororite and it only closes when everyone is gone! Besides that, everything you could possibly need…you can rent anything you want for free (volleybal for beach volleyball, boogeyboards, etc.). You can even work out on the beach. Absolutely no complaints. My rating: 10/10

Rooms :
We all stayed in building #7 on the ground level. All our rooms were the same and everything worked OK in most rooms. However, for some reason, my room was an exception. The automatic door lock didn’t work (had to use regular key), half the lights didn’t work and the TV didn’t work. Also, we found a few bugs & krickets in the rooms SO TRY TO GET A ROOM ON ANOTHER FLOOR THAN THE GROUND FLOOR! That being said, we werent in the room that often so it wasn’t a big deal. My rating: 6/10

Food :
Ive been to Cuba and the food at Azzurro was much much better. The problem isnt the taste, it’s the ingredients. For some reason, we just werent able to digest it. Out of 14 people, 14 were sick at some point during the week. Me personnally, I was sick the 1st couple of days and then was OK for the rest of the trip. One simple solution to the Dominican food: bring Immodium! We went to all 3 a-la-carte restaurants and they were OK but nothing to rave about. The buffet is just as good. My rating: 8/10

Service:
Ok, if you are always carrying a bunch a money and like to tip, you will be served like a king. But most people don’t and the service takes a hit. I guess it’s the same as in Canada, some people like their job and it shows and some people hate it and it shows. You just have to tip the ones who actually seem to enjoy working there. You will find some REALLY nice people there! Hats off to Wagner & Leonardo at the pool-bar! Especially Wagner, I asked him where I could buy Dominican music and he actually went home that night and brought me 3 burnt CDs the next day and wanted nothing for it! My rating: 8/10

Beach :
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. The sand is soft, the waves are big (sometimes too big…I hurt myself while bodysurfing). There is always a nice breeze to cool you down. Enjoy watching the Windsurfers in the afternoon. My rating: 10/10

Sosua:
When at Azzurro, you can take the free 15min. shuttle of any taxi (12$US) to the sister resort in the next town, called Sosua. When you arrive at the hotel in Sosua, you will notice the class difference right away. The hotel is nicer, the food is better but more boring! Most people are from 30-50 where as most people at Azzurro are between 18-30. The beach in Sosua Bay is horrible compared to the one in Cabarete. The only thing worth going to Sosua is the Scuba Diving or Snorkelling. Since there is no wind, the water is much clearer and you can see everything. We took a boat tour to the coral reefs and it was really fun! So many fish! And only 15$US! All in all, going to Sosua for a day, is very nice but I wouldn’t go for more than that. My rating: 7/10

Entertainment:
Well…..they try really hard but to me, it was funny more than anything else. If you have anything else to do, please go do it! My rating: 3/10

Shopping :
A quick 2min. walk and you are downtown Cabarete. There is tons of shops selling the same stuff so only buy if you are comfortable with the price. Don’t hesitate to walk away from someone, he will try to make a deal with you, trust me. I bought a pair of sunglasses at 150 pesos when the asking price was 350 pesos. My girlfriend also bought some stuff and got it much cheaper. The trick is to tell the person you only have a certain amount of money on you. For example, we wanted to buy something that was worth 75$US but we said we only had 60$ on us and the lady sold it to us at 60$. If you don’t feel like shopping around to find the best price, just go to the liquidation center (you cant miss it). The prices are fixed but very low. We bought most of our stuff there and I suggest you do the same. My rating: 7/10

Overall:
Overall, Azzurro is great for anyone in their twenties looking to relax on the beach & have a good time. My friend went to a 3 ½ star resort in Cuba and said that Azzurro should be more like a 4 star resort because it was better. Personnally, I would go back anytime. We had an awesome vacation even though everyone was sick! Probably because you kinda forget youre not feeling good with all the fun you’re having! Warning: If you like to have awesome rooms that are very clean, Azzurro might not be for you. My overall rating: 8/10

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteJulia ~ Montreal, Canada
October 2005

My friend and i went to Azzurro january 8th 2005 . We stayed there for a week. We are both in our early twenties. We went whit gotravel. It was my first time in a 3 1/2 stars hotel and i was a little bit scared.

The room
The first room they gave had a view of a construction site ans also the noises that came whit it so we changed. Then the brought us to the old part of the hotel and there was no hot water so we asked to change again. Our 3th and final room was in the new part of the hotel and we had the ocean view and we were near the pool and the restaurant and the bar so it was perfect. The room was very clean and honestly it was comparable to a 4 , 4 1/2 stars hotels.

The restaurant/bar
The buffet was not great. The breakfast was good but lunch and super was soso but a la carte restaurants were good so i recomend you go there and also book a la carte at Sosua Bay it is excellente. The staff is very friendly.

The beach is very nice and the water is warm , whit strong waves but it wasn`t a problem for me. The only negative thing about the beach is the vendors that are all over the place trying to sell plastic stuff for like 80 dollars so don`t get fooled don`t pay more than 5 dollars if you buy something. We paid like 2$ for a ring and a bracelet and my friend ring felt apart in the plane.

We only went once to the pool but many time to the jacuzzi, It was clean and i saw them cleaning it every day.

What i relly liked about cabarete it was the village. You could go there and walk and see a little bit of the local life. At night we went to the clubs at the beach wich are free and it was very fun. If you need the internet i recommand the internet cafe i front of the hotel, it`s cheaper than in the hotel. The only toor we took was the puerto plata tour and the guide was great and it was fun litlle trip.

Overall it was really great and we had a blast i really reccomand this place.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteJessca ~ Canada
April 2005

I have just returned from a wonderful month long vacation in the Dominican Rep. I stayd at Azzurro Beach Resort. This is the eighth time I have been there. This review comes with lots of past history. Hotel: I stayed in Building 7. I had lots of hot water. My fridge was filled reg. Th maids were terrific. The grounds were always kept clean.

Pool: They did have a small problem with the filter on the pool, but with in a day or two all was well. They had large number of Dominican people on the weekends and it took a while to get the pool back to normal.

Staff: There is not enough words to tell you how wonderful they all are. From Carlos at the front deck, Zoilo the waiter, Frances the bartender. The dancers, the pool staff, everyone made me feel like I was family. They did everything they colud think of to make my holiday very special.

Food. Now this is were I was not %100 pleased. Yes is was good. There was a good varity. It was not like it has been in the past. They are trying to cut costs and in the near future it will return to what is was. This will not stop me from returnjng in Sept.

Entert: It is always good, they had many dancers quit and had to train new ones very fast but they did alright.

To all my new friends that came after reading my reviews I am so glad that I met all of you. I will be there in Sept. and I hope some of you will return.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteGina and Wayne ~ Canada
April 2005

We just returned from a great vacation at the Azzuro Club Cabarete. Even though we read many bad reviews just before we left, we went with an open mind.

Our room was in #7 building and was very nice and always kept clean. We had no hot water a few times, but still managed to shower and be able to flush the toilet.

The pools were all really nice as well as the beach bar and grill. Sandros was a very hard worker at this bar even when he had 10 to 12 people waiting, he always smiled. The food was very good, The hot kept very hot and the cold over refrigerator coolers, so we felt safe eating anything.

The nightly entertainment (The shows) were excellant. Especially Phantom of The Opera and Chigago. The animation team did a super job!! There was always plenty of beach chairs and lots of trees if you wanted shade. We dined a few times at the a la cartes and had great meals and service. The only negative thing were the many vendors always wanting to sell you something. You just had to say , no gracias, and they would leave you alone. We met many nice people from Europe, United States and Canada and spoke with them often. If you are reading this , Harold Henman from Nova Scotia--HI!! to all of you. Also ""BONNIE"" form Antgonish. The beach was always clean and the kite boarders were amazing to watch. We have never really wanted to go the same resort twice, but we wouls return to this one!!

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteAl & Beth ~Ontario, Canada
April 2005

My husband and I plus 6 others just returned home from this resort..we were there from April 2-16, and I don't understand where all the bad reviews are coming from. We had the best holiday ever. The front desk staff, dining room staff, all the bartenders..Francis, Sergio, Sandro, Paul. Nadia in the activity dept. even the big boss Carlos made our stay the most memorable. We were upgraded to the Cabarete part of the resort in building 7, which was an added bonus as we didn't even have to ask for it. Our room was clean, with plenty of hot water for showers, and our fridge was stocked every other day with beer, pop and water. The food was typically Dominican with lots to eat, never went away hungry, none of us got sick from the food or from anything. The staff went out of their way to accomodate your every request, and if you had any problems, you just had to ask the resort manager Carlos, who made sure the problem was fixed right away. There was never a shortage of lounge chairs at the pool or the beach and always somewhere to read a book. The pools were cleaned and checked daily. The pool grill always had hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, pasta dishes and fresh fruit every day from noon until four or five pm, so if you didn't want to be bothered putting on shoes and a t-shirt that was the place to eat. The beach was beautiful but did get windy in the afternoon which brought all the kitesurfers which was amazing to see. We have no complaints about this resort at all and would not hesitate to go back again. We met a couple that reqested to be moved to our resort from the Sosua Bay Hotel as they didn't like it at all, and enjoyed the Azzurro much better. You have to take your chances no matter where you go or what resort you stay in, but we had an excellent time with many, many, wonderful memories of all the people we met not to mention the laughs we had every day with the bartenders. I would rate this resort at least a 4 star and will be sure to tell people to go there.

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteHolly
April 2005

I stayed in Azurro Caberate from march.12th-19th with my family and it was absoulutley AMAZING!! If i could change anything now i would have stayed for 2 weeks instead of one..because one week just isnt enough do everything you want to do! I flyed with zoom..and it was exellent. The staff were very nice..and the food was great. They made every body on the plane excited to be there.Go travel direct is GREAT!! The host of our trip (stephanie) was awsome. Got to meet many different people while there and made lots of new friends from all around the world.

the resort:
i have no complaints about it at all..it was beautiful..the way the whole resort was made up was perfect. The only disapointment i had was how there was no swim up bar when i got there :( and it said in the magizine there was . I never ate at the restuarant but i will warn you there was many people who got sick off the seafood ..so i stayed away from that.THE LOCATION WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Highly reccommend if you have a chance to go on an exurstion to do so.I went on the SAfari..and it was amazing! The host of the safari (oscar/auston??) lol..was great!!! They took us to the bowels of the dominican....no lie..There was some sad things we saw.

the rooms:
they were very basic..they wernt as bad as some people said they were. They were know wheres near like the pictures they show you before you go on the trip. But if your goin anywheres as nice as DR ..the only time you spend in the room is to sleep ..shower..and change. They were in pretty good shape..but i found they had a strange musty smell to them but u got used ot that after a while. I could go on but i guess you have to remember were talking about a third world country ..so deal with it.THE tv in the room had many stations (americian) a lot of poular shows!

food:
i loved the food .I am not a picky eater so i enjoyed mostly everthing.the pasta was great...they had alot of fresh fruit and juice.Breakfest was good they had an ommlette bar and fresh pankcakes and french toast. The hotdogs were disgusting...and the hamburgers .The milk tastes nothing like the milk in canada i must say!!!! but overall the food was good. Some times alot of things were missoing on the tables. The buffet had a wide variety of food..fresh.Each night they would have a different feature..like one night they had mexican food.

Beach:
the beach was nice..but i thought it would have been nicer. They was a lot of sea weed in the water there was so much i had to get out . And the water wasnt as clear as i thougth it would be. You have to get up at a decent time if you want a chair. There was a lot of shady places you could relax in . How ever beware of vendors!!!!!!! they can be so annoying after a while..and they dont take no for an answer. Dont buy anything from them ..its so much cheaper to buy it from the liquedation centre. oh and dont buy anything from the gift shop on the resort because it is a lot more expensive too. IF you decide to get your hair braided do not let one of the vendors that come up to you on the beach to do it.There is a hair salon on the resort where you can actualyl sit in the salon and get it done..for 25 dollars US. Before you leave you can even get then fixed or tightened for free.

the weather
The weather was amazing. It rained once when i was there, and that was when i arrived at the peurto plata airport.Id advise anyone travelling from a place where its cold, to where something light on the way there because the huminity will hit you so fast when you get off that plane . Its unbelievable.

the entertainment
the entertainment was worth watching.I wasnt around much in the day time ..so i only got to see the night entertainment. There are so many clubs and pubs right along the beach by the resort.Usually around 11 o clock is the best time to go.CLUB BAMBU WAS AMAZING!!!! but be very careful because there is MANY locals that go there ..make sure you go with a group of people and DO NOT wonder down the beach alone..it is unsafe.

the shopping
SO MUCH SHOPPING. i loved this part of the resort. You could walk right off the resort and there was a town right there with many shops..stores..restuarants..bars..pubs...you name it..SOme of the stores would barter, but the liquedation store would not.The prices there were so cheap you wouldnt even think of it .You can find everything from cigars to rum...any kind of sovenier ..you name it it was there. There was also some clothing stores as well. BE CAREFUL WHEN CROSSING THE ROAD!!! there is no stopping those mopads!!! they are crazy drivers ..so you basically have to run for your life.Ohhh and if you blonde like me and have blue eyes OR light skin be EXTREMELY CAREFUL ..make sure you dont go alone. The men are harmless but sometimes they just wont take no for an answer. And please dont go on any mopads!!! unless you want to die !!!

the drinks/bar
This was definitly the highlight of my trip!!! MMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm..Bannanna MAma's ..rum punch...SEX ON THE BEACH ..!!!!! WERE THE BEST! after you have a couple drinks make sure you drink a glass of water ..you should drink water constantly or you will find yourself in trouble. The bartenders were amazing!!!!! they were very hard workers...and would do anything for you!!!!!!!! very very very friendly would talk to you....and one even got rather emotional when i went to leave..haha intersting. Id have to say Seirgo and Leonardo were my favorite!!!

OVER ALL
i could go on about my trip and how fun it was ..but i would have to say i had the time of my life and it was more then worth the money..and i plan on going back to azzurro a.s.a.p.!!!!!!!!!!! I highly reccommend this to anyone!!!!!!!!!! i miss it already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Azzurro Beach Hotel - CabareteJulie and Randy ~ Ottawa Ontario, Canada
April 2005

My husband and I stayed at the Azzurro Beach Resort in Cabarete the week of March 12, 2005. We were with a group of 8 others who had come from different parts of Canada. I had read the reviews and decided to go with an open mind. First the good things....the weather was perfect; hot and sunny for eight straight days, with a nice breeze. The beach is very nice - lots of activities going on all the time (when we were there it was the best day of the year for kite-surfing), and the beach is nice and long for walking. We were fortunate to have a room in one of the two newer buildings; building 7, third floor. The room was very basic but it was clean, had a small fridge, air conditioning and a nice view of the ocean from our balcony. The pools are very clean and lovely to swim in. The resort activity staff worked very hard to keep us entertained and there is something for every age group. Now the "not so good". The food was dreadful, especially the buffet. There were gas fumes around the food which turned your stomach, and the food was very unappealing. My husband became quite ill for 24 hours and I came home with an intestinal problem that lasted for a week. We ate at the Sosua Bay Hotel twice and it was much better. In spite of the fact that we were in a newer building, we had no hot water for half of the week, and at times only a trickle at best. There were alot of university kids there on their own, and we did enjoy meeting some of them, but they run up and down the halls most of the night yelling and partying. There are way too many vendors on the beach, and they are relentless to the point of being rude at times. A polite "no gracias" does not work! You'll be walking down the beach and they will follow you even though you have politely said no. I found it impossible to even read a book for 5 minutes without being bothered. One vendor even said to me "you people never bring money to the beach". I don't know about you, but I go to the beach to relax, not to shop! This resort has the feel of one that was probably nicer at one time, and that needs some good management. My husband and I will definitely never again stay at a resort that is less than 4 and a half stars.
